Why Winter Workouts Are Actually Good For You
Calling all exercise enthusiasts! Did you know that working out outdoors during the winter could actually be better for you than an average workout?
A study at the University at Albany found that people who work out or partake in any form of exercise outdoors in colder temperatures can burn more calories than those who exercise in mid-50’s temperatures. They state the ideal temperature is 15 to 23 degrees (which is cold), and that you can burn up to 34% more calories.
And it doesn’t even have to be crazy running or exercising! If you just hike outdoors this temperature, you’ll burn more calories.
So, how is this possible?
Well, because you are in colder temperatures, your body wants to stay warm. In colder weather, our bodies have to burn more energy to be the warm temperature it needs to be.
We don’t know about you, but this gives us crazy motivation to go out and work out more in the winter! Winter exercising can be a bit difficult, as who in their right minds wants to job outside when it’s snowing?
Well, anything to be healthy, I guess. Plus, just a nice little hike or walk in the winter might be the refreshing motivation you need!
